Small and medium-sized enterprises consisting of companies with no more than 250 employees. Almost all Dutch companies are small and medium-sized companies and only one percent of Dutch companies are "large companies" (251 or more employees).
Most SMEs are active in (commercial) services and retail / wholesale.
